Asaba residents, in Oshimili South Local Government Area, on Monday converged at the various Primary Healthcare Centres in the area to receive the Insecticide Treated Nets provided by the National Malaria Elimination Program, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, Society for Family Health and other partners.
According to our reporter who monitored the distribution process at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Cable Point, Asaba, people had gathered to pick up the nets as early as 8am.
They were educated on how to use and care for the net by the Health Educator of the Centre, Mrs Osifo Spelling, who said the net should be spread under a shade for 24 hours before use in the home.
She explained that the nets were meant to be slept under to avoid mosquito bite and the resultant malaria, emphasizing that the nets must not be dumped nor put to wrong use.
Mrs Osifo said the net should be washed with mild soap and hanged under a shade to dry, and when torn, should only be mended with needle and thread.
Some household members who collected the nets, commended the federal and state governments, as well as the partners for the gesture and promised to put them to good use.
