The Vice Chancellor, University of Delta, Agbor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke has been honoured by the Nigerian Red Cross Society, during a brief ceremony that took place in the office of the Vice Chancellor, on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025.
Mr. Mike Agbamu, the Branch Facilitator, who led the delegation of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, decorated Professor Stella Chiemeke and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Patricia Mbah, with the full regalia of the Red Cross Society.
According to him, they came to the University of Delta, Agbor, to acquaint the Management team about the activities of the Society and to know when to inaugurate a chapter of the organization at the citadel of learning.
Mr. Agbamu used the opportunity to announce that the Society would organize a one week training exercise, at Ozoro, from the 10th of August 2025.
He further stated that the training which is for both members and non members of the Red Cross society would focus involve Basic Learning Sessions (BLS), Basic First Aid (BFA), etc.
He posited that the training sessions was very essential as participants would be tutored adequately on the basic knowledge of First Aid, attending to accidents victims and managing unforseen dangerous circumstances.
He stressed further that members and trainees have better knowledge in managing emergency situations, which easily afforded them the opportunity to take charge effectively and be able to offer first aid to anybody in need.
While welcoming the delegation of the Society, Prof. Chiemeke thanked them for partnering with the University of Delta, Agbor. According to the Vice Chancellor: " We really appreciate the honour done to me and the Deputy Vice Chancellor. We are grateful for making us part of your family. By the time a new session starts, and with the gathering of staff and students it will be a very good time for the Red Cross to come and organize the anticipated, fully loaded, educative cum humanistic programme"
The event was witnessed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Patricia Mbah, the Bursar, Pastor Sunny Ikeogwu and the Registrar, Barr. Richmond Omagbemi, while the delegation of the Red Cross included Trainer Nkwo Emmanuel, Divisional Coordinator, Crosser Eboma Bernard, Deputy Coordinator, and Rita O., Health Coordinator, and Nancy Ofume, member.
The Nigerian Red Cross Society, which equally extends its training programmes to care givers internally and externally, is a humanitarian organization in Nigeria. It is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It focuses on providing assistance in emergencies like disasters, conflicts, or health crises.
It services includes disaster response, health services, promoting humanitarian values, and supporting vulnerable communities. The organization engages volunteers for community service and humanitarian activities.
